A Healthier Lancashire and South Cumbria

Background

Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Alliance is a collaboration of all professionals and organisations involved in the delivery of cancer care for the people who live in our region.

We have a core team that works with many other stakeholders to develop a comprehensive work plan based on our local priorities for cancer.

Cancer Alliances were first established in 2016, with a specific remit to deliver the NHS Long Term Plan for Cancer.

Long Term Plan Overview

The key ambitions in the Long Term Plan are:

  • by 2028, 55,000 more people each year will survive their cancer for five years or more; and
  • by 2028, 75% of people with cancer will be diagnosed at an early stage (stage one or two).

This means that we want to raise general awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer, identify those at high risk of cancer earlier, and continue to develop innovative treatments that improve survival and quality of life.
